Artist Bill Myers

Bill Myers lives and works in Ocean Springs Mississippi. His intricately detailed paper and mixed media sculptures are pregnant with political, social and cultural comment without overstatement or the use of clichés. A graduate of Delta State University in Cleveland Mississippi, Myers' work is beautifully constructed and intelligently composed.

"I strive for a kind of organic quality in my work. Though the subjects vary widely, I try for a look which makes such good sense, where no one element appears stuck on or out of place."

"My main material for the 3-D pieces is usually mat board. The sculptures are built up in layers, resulting in a structure that you would find in architectural construction. They are strong and built of acid free materials. The paint on the work is a series of acrylic glazes resulting in a luminous surface. I incorporate into these pieces figures of polymer clay, wood and metal objects, and other materials."

"My subjects often address my current concerns of politics, environment, racism/sexism -- whatever my preoccupation; but my hope is for a sort of nebulous meaning which will remain current even after the initial concern has left.
